66th Street & Portland Avenue

It is both the City’s and County’s responsibility to provide a safe and efficient transportation system.  The intersection at 66th Street and Portland Avenue has a history of severe crashes.

Many residents recognize that confusion and delay problems exist at this intersection, but have expressed concern that major improvements are unnecessary and costly.  Some believe simply adding left turn arrows would solve the problems at the intersection.  Realistically, the addition of arrows could improve the safety of the intersection, but would result in increased delay and frustration already experienced by motorists.  The City has exhausted all possibilities of improving the conditions within the existing right-of-way.

Two million dollars of federal funds have been allocated specifically to make safety improvements at this intersection.  To do nothing with these funds would not only be a lost opportunity to correct the problem, but would also be irresponsible on the part of City and County officials.
